Our friend and Assistant Sysop,
James H. "BJ" CASTO, died on 13 March 1999.His daughter, Julie, will be continuing his research.
We all have our fond memories of Beej. He was a selfless researcher, a kind man, and a dear friend. He will be missed.

Our friend and fellow family historian,
Dot Young, died on Tuesday, 29 June 1999.Funeral services: 3pm Saturday, 3 July, at Calvary Baptist
Church, Tuscaloosa. The body will lie in state in the chapel from 2-3pm.
Graveside services and burial will take place immediately following at
Evergreen Cemetery, adjacent to Calvary.I am leaving Leigh Compton's information on the list
in the event any of you wish to contact her or Jacque Otts.

It is with deep regret and much sorrow that I have to report to you that our beloved Gee Gee Hughes, died early this morning (22 Dec 1999) of a heart attack.
Those of you who are GEnie refugees will remember Gee Gee with fond memories. In the beginning, she was also the (ship) Samuel's seamstress who had a propensity for stitching the canvas upside down, causing the Samuel to navigate in circles. Gee Gee was a wonderfully warm, generous, loving, caring person with a great sense of humor. If she hadn't received e-mail from me for a while, she would call me to make sure I was okay.
Of course, there is never a good time to lose a friend, but it is especially difficult at holiday time. Gee Gee should have lived a very long life--like her father who died earlier this year at the age of 99. Her survivors are her husband Russ, daughter Wendy and her husband Oliver, son Brett and his wife Corrine and their little boy, Cole.
I don't remember whose job it is, but I ask someone to please lower the Samuel flag to half-mast. Could we please have a proper ship's funeral, too?
Capt. Ski (Re-Ret.) (Pat Shemenski of Ohio) [Those wishing to send condolences can email Pat for the address]
