My great grandmother was Mary Jane Moser, born
approx. 1862, in North
Carolina. She married Joseph Pendleton Pruitt in
1893 in Black Mountain,
North Carolina. Joe Pruitt used to say that he took
her from the
reservation. Family tradition has always held the
she was part Cherokee
indian, possibly as much as half. We cannot find any
information about her
parents and we cannot find her in any of the census
records before 1890. We
know that she had a brother named William. They said
that their father was
from Virginia. We always assumed that the Cherokee
blood came from her
mother.
