Posting Tips
We all have families that cross the above boundaries, so to help you determine which board you should
post to here are some guidelines (with sample circumstances):
- If you're looking for anyone with your surname, anywhere, post your query in all three boards.
- If your ancestors were "from England" and you want to know more about them after they arrived
in the States, post in either the U.S. or Southern States board (depending on their U.S. location, if known).
- You know your Kentucky ancestor was either from Scotland or England and need help finding him there.
This post would go in the International board (Currently Down).
- Your ancestor spent most of his life in Kentucky and Tennessee, but according to family tradition he
moved on to Texas and California but you haven't been able to find him in those states and need some help. Post this to the U.S.
board to attract researchers with Texas and California connections.
- You're replying to a post on the U.S. or Southern board and the information you are adding is
about your European ancestors with the same surname. I suggest you post a new message
in the International board (Currently Down), then add a reply to the original message pointing to your other message.
That way people with international ties won't miss your post and the original poster can follow your thread
on the International board if he is interested in that line.
Please post about only one family at a time, and post by the location you're
inquiring about since that's where other researchers knowledgeable about those areas will be looking. When message threads cross board boundaries, cross-post and point to the new thread.
These aren't hard and fast rules. Merely suggestions so that others can easily find your post and these boards won't get cluttered with off-topic posts. You can always find your posts by using my Search engine.
